Technology entrepreneurs have called on government to consider instituting a Technology Fund or give some waivers in the eligibility criteria for Coronavirus Alleviation Programme Business Support Scheme for startups Business.

Educational technology entrepreneurs including technology and digital solution developers produce online learning software in line with the government directive to educational institutions to roll out online learning platforms to make up for the lost contact hours with students.

The Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Afro Technology, Simon Batayam Aseno who developed the management system that hosts the learning platform of the Nursing Training College at Nalerigu in the North East Region made the appeal in an interview with GBC URA Radio in Bolgatanga.

Mr Aseno encouraged institutions to roll out online learning platforms for students saying apart from technology making knowledge, and access to actionable digital skills, they are also empowering institutions and individuals to protect the environment by decreasing their carbon footprint as a result of the reduction of their over-reliance on green resources to function.

Mr Aseno maintained that coronavirus has revealed vulnerabilities in the traditional education system and it now clear that society needs flexible and resilient education systems as we face an unpredictable future.

He indicated that the crisis has presented an opportunity to create an ecosystem that allows learners in both public and private institutions to access digital learning materials.

Moving forward, the country will need to look at how effective the innovations are to ascertain how many people can access them and whether it is sustainable.

Mr. Aseno noted that at the moment, the effectiveness of educational technology depends on the strength of national networks and connectivity to technology and one way to sustain education technology is by making smartphones more accessible to more people by zero-rating smartphones and providing subsidized Wi-Fi in low resource environments.

The Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Afro Technology, Simon Batayam Aseno called for a digital civic education for National Service Personnel.

He said National Service Personnel should be given a three months online course on how to calculate and file income taxes and other statutory requirements of entrepreneurs. This he argues, will make them ready to be employers instead of employees.
