The recent coup in Burkina Faso has raised a lot of questions about the democratic environment on the Continent and how it could be preserved.  Analysts have therefore been sharing ideas about the ongoing situation and how it could be resolved.

According to Security Analyst, Colonel Festus Aboagye, all countries in the West African Region must be worried.

He questioned, ”if people in this country cannot be paid, like the lecturers, if there is unemployment, why on earth do we have a political class that shuttles around…?

Director of Faculty of Academic Affairs and Research at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Professor Kwesi Aning pointed out that there is system failure, so far as the situation in Burkina Faso is concerned.

He said ”multilateral institutions and forces that are clashing are combustible, therefore we should not take what we have for granted, and we should also be careful”, he posited.

ECOWAS at a virtual Extraordinary Meeting on January 28, 2022 suspended Burkina Faso from the regional political block with sanction to return the country to constitutional rule.
