South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed frustration at the corruption that has infected the country before his predecessor, Jacob Zuma, was ousted as head of state earlier this year.

He said corruption is now being tackled, but people still need to see senior government officials tried and sent to prison. Mr Ramaphosa acknowledged that because he was deputy president during the darkest period he too must give evidence to a judicial corruption enquiry.

The president has confirmed the sacking of the head of the country’s tax authority, Tom Moyane. He had been under suspension since March over a string of controversies, including missing revenue.
