Health experts laud eradication of Polio in Africa

Health Experts say Africa’s eradication of Polio is historic. They, however, warned that the feat chalked up should not lead to complacency, stressing the need for vaccination against the disease to be taken seriously.

The independent Africa Regional Certification Commission for Polio Eradication Yesterday Officially declared the WHO Africa Region free of wild Polio virus.

Nevertheless, the Acting Programme Manager for the Expanded Immunization Programme, Dr Kwame Amponsah-Achianu says there could be a possibility of Polio returning.

Dr. Amponsah-Achianu expressed fear of some pockets of unimmunized children around and advised parents to take advantage of immunization programmes.
