Landslide kills three children in western Uganda

Three children are reported dead after the house they were in collapsed due to a landslide that occurred after a downpour in Western Uganda.

Uganda Red Cross Society, a humanitarian agency, said the incident occurred in the night at Kilembe valley in Kasese district.

The weather department issued a ‘Flood Risk Alert’ warning that about 24 districts across the country are likely to face floods as the ongoing rainy season is at its peak.

The weather department said the rains are expected to bring about flooding especially in urban and low lying areas, mudslides in the mountainous areas as well as lightning strikes coupled with strong winds.

Government says it has distributed an assortment of relief items to many parts of the country, currently facing heavy rains.
