Nigeria’s Parliament has passed a law capping campaign spending for next year’s elections.
Presidential candidates are to spend not less than 14 million dollars while Gubernatorial candidates are to spend 3 million dollars.
Senate candidates have been given a 700 thousand dollars cap with candidates for the House of Representatives restricted to spend only 280 thousand dollars
The Electoral Act stipulates how electronic card readers, used for the accreditation of voters at polling stations, should work.
Reports say this is seen as a move to address malpractices that have characterised previous elections.
