Nigeria’s Senate president rejects calls to stand down after defection to opposition PDP

Nigeria’s Senate President Bukola Saraki has rejected calls to stand down after he recently defected from the ruling party to the main opposition.

Mr. Bukola quit the All Progressives Congress, APC to join the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP with the reason that he had irreconcilable differences with power brokers in the APC.

He has meanwhile condemned the recent siege on parliament describing it as an assault on the country’s democracy.

Mr. Bukola celebrated people who stood up to defend the premises and the people’s representatives.
