A day’s workshop on ECOWAS protocols, border security and terrorism was held in Paga, in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region. Citizens were urged to make conscious efforts to acquire in-depth knowledge on the various ECOWAS Protocols on Democracy and Good Governance, Free Movement of Persons, Goods and Services and Trade Facilitation.
The workshop was under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration with Media Response, as a collaborator and with assistance from the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council.
The Coordinating Director, Multilateral and International Organization at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ambassador Mrs. Perpetua Dufu said “it was important for Ghanaians to take advantage of the benefits that come with Ghana’s membership of the Regional Body.
She entreated the people to be very sensitive to happenings in the environment within which they find themselves.”
Upper East Regional Coordinating Director, Alhaji Inusah Abubakari revealed that, the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has been meeting regularly to assess the security situation in the region.
He added that, REGSEC had also been engaging stakeholders including the regional chapter of the Ghana Hoteliers Association, demanding of them to furnish the REGSEC with details of any suspicious characters that lodge at their facilities.
“I am happy to state that through this sensitization, two people were apprehended in a hotel in Bolga apparently making calls suspected to be linked to the jihadist. They were picked up and through further investigations; they have to be sent to Accra. That was in the last part of 2022.”
