The Ghanaian Times calls on the people to develop an interest in the district level elections as a means of justifying the country’s readiness to elect District Chief Executives. Pointing to the poor turnout in the just ended District Level election, the paper says the country cannot desire to elect District Chief Executives and detest that of the Assembly and Unit Committee members. The Times is of the view that state agencies including the NCCE and EC should be at the forefront of finding sustainable remedy to the situation.
The Daily Graphic wants a law to be formulated which will determine a percentage of turnout from the total registered voters to make the elections credible and representative of the people. The paper says it will be unfair to generalise the low turnout in the just ended District level election as representatives of the people. It says votes of 7 million people, for instance, cannot be generalised over a total voting population of say 16 million.
