Frequent clashes at Odododiodoo linked to unemployment

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has cited lack of employment opportunities as a major contributory factor to the frequent violent clashes between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Odododiodoo Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.

The Regional Director of NCCE, Lucille Hewlett Annan, disclosed that an engagement with the youth of the Constituency revealed, that owing to limited economic ventures in the area, most of the youth idle about and resort to violence at the least provocation.

Mrs. Annan made the disclosure on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme “FOCUS” which discussed “the role of NCCE towards successful elections”.

On the phenomenon of rejected ballots, Mrs. Annan ascribed varied reasons accounting for the increasing trend.

She entreated political parties to engage competent people as polling agents to avoid confusion and agitation over declaration of results.
