The world of Arts and Entertainment is always chock-a-block with events from January to December. So, we picked out a few unforgettable memories to share with you. There are those that will get you tapping and dancing, and others that will simply give you the ‘ahaaa’ moment.
The Annual Kwahu Easter Festival, which was put on hold for two years due to COVID-19, was finally celebrated. Many who hungered for the Easter festivities were thrilled and enjoyed it to the max.
Award-winning Artiste, KiDi grabbed two prestigious awards in the country. He won Artistes of the year at both the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards and 3Music Awards.
Reggae legend Eric Donaldson was in Accra,Ghana to perform at Hands Across Africa, a Musical Festival and Expo which took place at the National Theater, in Accra. He was also in the GBC News Studio and had a one-on-one chat with the Entertainment Reporter, Hagar Owusu.
The Black Star Square in Accra was lit as tens of thousands of music lovers gathered for the 10th Edition of the Global Citizen Festival.
There were performances from a number of International Artistes. The list had Usher, Oxlade, Stormzy, Gyakie, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Tems and many others.
The year 2022 saw two rappers lock horns in a lyrical battle. Amerado Burner and Lyrical Joe gave their fans a run for their money. They dropped songs that got social media buzzing.
Mzbel, a female Artiste, also released a diss song for her old friend, Comedian Afia Schwarzenegger, which went viral.
On the International Stage, some Ghanaian Artists also raised the Ghanaian flag high. Black Sherif ‘s ‘Kwaku the traveler’ secured top spots in different countries. It gained the number one slot on Ghana Apple Music and eventually landed at the top spot-on Nigeria Apple Music too.
He was also featured on some Billboards.
Ghanaian Socialite and Singer, Hajia 4real was arrested in the United Kingdom after attending the Ghana Music Awards UK. Her arrest was based on an alleged fraud case involving eight million dollars.
Nigeria Superstar Davido lost his 3-year-old son Ifeanyi David Adeleke in the last quarter of 2022. Davido and Chioma’s son drowned in a swimming pool at the singer’s residence in Banana Island, Lagos State.
A number of celebrity marriages took the internet into frenzy mode. Nollywood’s pride, Rita Dominic, got hitched to her beau, Fidelis Anosike, at a manor in North Yorkshire, England. Also Nollywood, actor Frederick Leonard married his co-star actress Peggy Ovire.
In the United States, the law caught up with some Stars. American Stand-up Comedian and Actor, Bill Cosby was found guilty of sexually abusing a 16-year-old in 1975. A Civil Jury found that Bill Cosby sexually abused Judy Huth in 1975 when she was a 16-year-old, ordering him to pay.
Also, R&B Superstar R. Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison for using his celebrity status to sexually abuse children and women. R Kelly, 55, was convicted in New York of racketeering and Sex Trafficking Crimes.
American Actor Johnny Depp won his defamation case against Ex-wife Amber Heard, whom he sued over claims of domestic abuse. He was awarded $10m in compensatory damages and $5m in punitive damages.
