US-based Ghanaian artiste Amaarae has publicly endorsed rising Ghanaian singer Darkua as one of the country’s most underrated artists. The co-sign came during a recent interview with DJ Chvmeleon for R29Unbothered, where Amaarae was asked to spotlight lesser-known talent in Ghana’s music scene.
The endorsement follows Amaarae’s groundbreaking Coachella debut, where she made history as the first Ghanaian artist to perform a solo billed set at the iconic festival. Her performance not only showcased her global appeal but also paid homage to her roots by incorporating Ghanaian songs into her setlist — a move that resonated with fans across the diaspora.
Among the artists she highlighted in the interview was AfroSoul and R&B singer Darkua, whose star has been steadily rising. The recognition is a major nod from one of Ghana’s most internationally acclaimed acts, further spotlighting the depth of talent within the country’s creative ecosystem.
Darkua recently released her debut EP, Never Too Late, a six-track project exploring themes of love, heartbreak, healing, and self-discovery. Blending soulful vocals with genre-bending production, the EP has been praised for its emotional honesty and fresh sonic direction.
Reacting to the unexpected endorsement, Darkua said:
“It’s incredibly inspiring to see how far Amaarae has come. Watching her Coachella debut was history in the making; I was tweeting through the whole thing because I felt so proud. She represented Ghana beautifully and made women in the music industry feel seen. To hear her mention my name as one to watch on such a huge platform like R29Unbothered was the icing on the cake. I truly appreciate the love and support.”
Since its release, Never Too Late has surpassed 250,000 streams across platforms and received editorial support from Apple Music, Spotify, Audiomack, and Pandora. The EP’s soundscapes — ranging from emotive ballads to upbeat, soulful rhythms — reflect Darkua’s versatility and growing artistry.
With co-signs from influential figures like Amaarae and a standout debut in her catalogue, Darkua is solidifying her place as one of Ghana’s most promising voices in contemporary music.
