Ghana's parliament soirées with PWDs

The Parliament of Ghana shared love with some group of persons living with various forms of disabilities to put a smile on their faces ahead of Christmas.

The event which was held at the Foyer of Parliament, brought together adults and children living with disability including children with celebral palsy, the visually impaired, the hearing impaired among others.

The atmosphere was charged and elated with sweet melodious songs from parliament’s resident choir known as the the Voices of Democracy.

The Clerk to Parliament, Emmanuel Kwesi Anyimadu, Speaker of parliament, professor Aaron Mike Ocquaye, the Second Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei Owusu, Deputy Minority Leader, James Klutse Avedzi and the other dignitaries on the high table joined the persons with disability on the dancing floor.

Even the Speaker of Parliament, Professor Michael Oquaye could not hide his joy as he joined dancing.

The excitement at the event was undiscribable.

When the Speaker finally announced Parliament’s donation to the group that were present at the event, they could not hide their exitment, but burst out with uncontrollable joy and gratitude to Parliament for the gesture.

In all, the group were given a physical cash of 25 Thousand Ghana Cedis and assorted items including diapers and baby nakpins, white canes and toiletries among others.

Speaker Professor Michael Oquaye, in his remarks at the event, expressed the need for the event to be expanded to include more vulnerable people in the community to come and fraternize with Parliament at the end of every year.

According to him, parliament is thinking of new disability friendly chamber very soon.
