A woman who previously filed a civil lawsuit accusing music mogul Shawn Carter, professionally known as Jay-Z, of sexual assault has formally recanted her allegations in a sworn court declaration. The accuser, who proceeded in initial court filings under the pseudonym Jane Doe, stated that she has never met or spoken to the artist. In a twelve-page legal filing, she clarified that the accusations targeting Carter were entirely untrue.

“Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter never raped me. I have never met or spoken to Mr. Carter. Mr. Carter never engaged in any inappropriate conduct toward me whatsoever.”

The reversal marks a significant development in high-profile civil litigation tied to the broader legal fallout surrounding Sean Combs.

Origins of the Initial Litigation

The legal battle began when a complaint was filed in late 2024 alleging that Carter and Sean Combs participated in a sexual assault at an afterparty following the MTV Video Music Awards in the year 2000. The plaintiff asserted that she was thirteen years old at the time of the alleged incident. According to her recent declaration, the legal process was set in motion after she encountered a social media advertisement seeking individuals with potential claims against Combs. She stated that the advertisement triggered repressed memories of a past trauma, leading her to contact a legal representative.

Questionable Due Diligence and Legal Fallout

In her recantation, the woman asserted that her legal team, headed by attorney Tony Buzbee, filed the initial complaint without conducting an independent investigation or sufficient background verification. She maintained that she did not see a draft of the lawsuit prior to its filing and that the attorneys proceeded without her explicit authorization. After the complaint was amended to implicate Carter, the plaintiff stated that she began to doubt her own timeline and memories of the event. She noted that she never received any financial payout or threats from Carter or his associates.

Ongoing Legal Battles and Accountability

Although the accuser has been dismissed from Carter’s active lawsuit, the rapper’s legal pursuit against her former attorneys continues in a New York court. Carter and his defense team characterized the initial claims as an extortionate blackmail attempt and a malicious prosecution strategy designed to extract a financial settlement. While Combs remains incarcerated following a federal conviction on unrelated prostitution-related charges, Tony Buzbee continues to represent other plaintiffs in separate civil actions. The broader litigation underscores ongoing scrutiny regarding legal validation standards in high-stakes celebrity lawsuits.

“The trauma that my wife, my children, loved ones and I have endured can never be dismissed.”

Ultimately, this unprecedented reversal underscores the delicate intersection of high-profile civil advocacy, memory recovery, and institutional due diligence. As the judicial proceedings continue to unfold in federal court, the case serves as a critical examination of how complex allegations are vetted and pursued within the modern media and legal landscape.
