In the 2026 Budget Statement, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson announced a major boost for Ghana’s cultural and creative sectors. According to Dr. Forson, the government will rehabilitate the National Theatre in Accra while also commencing site acquisition and design for a second national theatre in Kumasi.

“This initiative will provide state-of-the-art platforms for performing arts and help nurture local talent across the country,” he said.

In addition to these infrastructural projects, the government plans to establish a Film Fund to support the revival of Kumawood and other film associations, as well as a Creative Arts Fund aimed at promoting music, fashion, food, and other creative industries.

Dr. Forson emphasized that these interventions are part of broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s cultural identity, create jobs, and position the creative economy as a significant contributor to national development.
