‘Kumawood’ – comprising actors actresses, Producers and Directors from the Ashanti Region have petitioned the Leadership of Parliament over a government’s decision to site a “Movie or Film Village” at Kyebi in the Eastern Region.

To the group, Ashanti Region has carved a niche as the hub of good local movie production hence, most appropriate to play host to a “Movie Village”.

At the 2019 budget reading last year, government revealed its plans to construct a film village for the movie industry in Ghana. Already, it is believed that a 200 acre land had been secured for the project to commence.

To Kumawood, Kyebi, the proposed venue for the film village has no connection with movie production as compared to the Ashanti region.

The Majority Leader, Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu, received the petition on behalf of leadership of Parliament.
