The National Theatre of Ghana has launched the 2025 theatre festival in Accra.

This year, the theme of the week-long celebrations is showcasing the rich diversity of Ghanaian culture through the performing arts. Acting Executive Director of the National Theatre, Henry Hurbert Malm, said the main festival is expected to run from Tuesday, September 23, to Sunday, September 28.

This year’s event will highlight areas such as Legends Night, where honours will be given to outstanding contributors to Ghana’s creative and performing arts; theatre performances by senior high schools aimed at promoting acts among students; and a performance by the Department of Music, School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana. Others include the Ghana Dance Ensemble, the National Symphony Orchestra, and the National Drama Company, Abibigromma.

Mr. Malm said that apart from the above-mentioned performances, a symposium on arts taxation, with a focus on the impact of the current tax regime on the fortunes of the arts and culture sector, will also be held.

Exhibitions, master classes, dance aerobics, live paintings, a food bazaar, and several other creative performances will take place at the National Theatre.

Present at the media launch were some board members of the National Theatre and partners. Established under PNDC Law 259 in 1991, the National Theatre of Ghana is the country’s premier institution for the performing arts and cultural expression. Its mandate is to develop, preserve, and promote the performing arts in Ghana while nurturing creativity, fostering cultural exchange, and showcasing Ghana’s rich culture.
