Gospel singer and songwriter, Perez Muzik, born Frank Nii Okai Tagoe, recently opened up about his past struggles with finding solace in drinking spots. Despite his difficult journey, Perez Muzik has since turned his life around and is now pursuing his passion for gospel music.

Speaking on the ‘Mid-Morning Affairs’ show with Kwame Insaidoo, he disclosed he was not always a servant of God, explaining that individuals have different approaches to dealing with anxiety and depression and people at drinking spots were more welcoming to his struggle with anxiety and depression.

“You know the funny thing is when you get there everybody is your friend and they will give you a listening ear, they will not judge you and some of them will even encourage you. Some of them will share their story and you will realize that what you are going through is actually nothing which gives you some kind of comfort but you know that is not the right way”.

According to Perez Muzik, he was out drinking with a group of people when a random old lady came to buy drinks and began to prophesy. Even though he had some understanding of the word of God, the depth of truth that the woman was speaking was so profound that he was left wondering what had happened to her. He said that the woman’s words were so aligned with the Bible that it was almost as if she was speaking the word of God.

“We were there one time and this woman came. She was also coming to buy drinks and this woman began to prophesy. Even though i had a little understanding of the word of God, the depth of truth this woman was speaking-i was like what happend to you. At that point whatever she was saying if you put it through scriptures, she was speaking the word of God”, he revealed.

“I wanted to ask her what happened. I think at a point she mentioned that she was once in ministry or something. And i am just like may this not be our end. May it not be said of us that we were. Even in our old age may it always be said that we are. It takes a lot of conscious effort”.

His turn around came when he made a personal decision to join his mum and aunt to fellowship where he encountered God and initiated a whole new journey with God, he added.

The singer and songwriter secured 6 nominations at the VGMA 2023 and 2 Awards namely: Songwriter of the Year and Male Vocal Performer of the Year with his popular song “Hewale lala” which translates to “song of strength”.
