Only invited guests will be allowed on the red carpet at this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), organizers have announced.

The event’s producers, Charterhouse, say the new policy is aimed at improving the overall experience and addressing long-standing concerns about the red carpet segment.

In a statement, the organisers explained that the 2025 edition will feature two red carpet sessions: one for general media interviews and photo opportunities, and a second, more exclusive session meant for television coverage and fashion interviews.

Access to the televised red carpet will be strictly by invitation. This move, according to Charterhouse, is to ensure only recognised personalities and industry stakeholders appear on screen.

For years, some viewers and critics have raised concerns over the appearance of lesser-known personalities and what they described as “random” individuals taking part in the red carpet, which often led to extended airtime and mixed fashion reviews. Others have also criticised the quality of outfits on display.

With the new approach, organisers hope to bring structure and raise the standard of the red carpet experience.

The 26th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards will be held on Saturday, 10 May 2025, at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre.

The awards, first held in 2000, celebrate excellence in Ghana’s music industry. Over the years, the TGMAs have grown to become one of the biggest nights on Ghana’s entertainment calendar, honouring musicians, producers, and other key players in the music scene.

This year’s ceremony is produced by Charterhouse, with support from Telecel, Guinness, British Council, Close-Up, KPMG, and TV3.
