Government through the Ministry of Finance has made additional budgetary allocation of ¢100 million to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture to carry out its planned programmes.
The amount will help address key constraints facing the tourism sector.
This is contained in a speech read on behalf of President Akufo-Addo by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway at the launch of the Domestic and Regional Tourism Programme in Accra.
The President noted that the programme will target increasing arrivals from 600,000 by 2022 to about one million by 2024.
President Akufo-Addo noted that Ghana’s economy has over the years relied heavily on the production and export of raw materials and has until recently not achieved much in terms of changing the structure of the economy.
He was, however, quick to add that the country has begun to generate jobs that will cater for the rapidly expanding youthful population.
The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal said the Ministry has adopted a comprehensive approach to Tourism promotion adding plans are underway to review the Tourism policy to make it attractive to education planners, religious groups and business.
Chief Executive of the Ghana Tourists Authority, Akwasi Agyeman said his outfit will soon unveil a programme to bring back Domestic Tourism to Pre-Pandemic levels.
