The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts (MoTACC) has commiserated with the families, fans and the creative arts fraternity on the deaths of Yaw Sarpong and Mary Tiwaa.

In a statement signed by Madam Delassie Mabel Awuku, Head of Public Relations, the Ministry said it had received with deep sorrow the news of the passing of gospel musician and choral icon Yaw Sarpong.

It also expressed sorrow over the earlier demise of his long-time soloist and key member of the Asomafo Gospel Group, Mary Tiwaa, popularly known as Maame Tiwaa.

“Yaw Sarpong and Tiwaa shared a profound musical journey that significantly shaped gospel music and choral development in Ghana,” it said.

The statement said Yaw Sarpong, as leader of the Asomafo Gospel Group, dedicated decades to mentorship and artistic excellence, nurturing generations of musicians and contributing to Ghana’s cultural and spiritual development.

“Alongside him, Tiwaa’s distinctive voice, creativity, and passionate performances played an integral role in the group’s success and enduring impact,” it said.

The statement said the contributions of both personalities remained unparalleled, and that their collective legacy continued to inspire the creative arts sector and the nation.

“On behalf of the Government and the people of Ghana, the Ministry extends its heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, colleagues…we share in your grief and stand with you during this difficult time,” it said.
