The Council of Ahafo Chiefs and the Ahafo Development Association have called on the NDC and all political parties in the country to be mindful of their utterances and refrain from dragging partisan politics into discussions on the overwhelming YES vote during the referendum on the creation of new regions.

The President of the Council of Ahafo Chiefs and Omanhene of  Yamfo, Nana Ansah Adu Baah said this at a news conference in Kenyase Number One.

The conference was called in reaction to claims of irregularities in the referendum by the NDC.

The Ahafo Chiefs regret that the statements downplay the seriousness with which the people of Ahafo pursued the quest for creation of their own region.

The Press Conference was called in response to a statement issued on Thursday, the 3rd of January 2019, by the National Democratic Congress, (NDC).

It centered on the non-partisan nature of the referenda and the convergence of interests in the creation of the regions, which may have limited and tempered the response of various stakeholders to the manipulation.

Speaking at News Conference, the President of the Council of Ahafo Chiefs, the Omanhene of Yamfo Traditional Area, Nana Ansah Adu Baah said the desire for an Ahafo Region has been the subject of petitions to successive governments in the country for over 40 years by the Chiefs and people of Ahafo.

He stated that the massive turn out in the just ended Referendum in Ahafo was the result of their hard work.

Nana Adu Baah said to ensure fairness in line with CI 109, section 17, the EC was mandated to Organise the Referendum, whilst the Council of Ahafo Chiefs and Ahafo Development Association served as interested parties which appointed polling agents based on section 21.

Nana Ansah Adu Baah appealed to the NDC and other political parties not to make the discussions on the referendum partisan.

He indicated that the Chiefs and people of Ahafo are ready to accept the decision of the President, Nana Akufo-Addo on the siting of the capital for the Ahafo Region in a show of unity.

He therefore thanked the President and his cabinet for making their dreams come true.
