Former President John Mahama has officially confirmed his participation in the Presidential race for the 2020 elections, by first filing his nomination papers to contest the Party’s December primaries.

The delegation was led by Ambassador Ohene Agyekum.

He was represented today (August 23), at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Party Headquarters by a team led by former Ambassador Ohene Agyekum who pledged Mr. Mahama’s readiness to comply with the Party’s campaign rules and desist from mudslinging other opponents.
The General-Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia urged aspiring contestants to be decorous in their utterances and ensure orderliness.
A member of the NDC, Danny Annan who is vying for the National Chairmanship of the party, endorsed former President Mahama’s wish to contest.
The Headquarters at Adabraka was filled to capacity as party faithful thronged there in their numbers. Most of them chanted their support for Mr. Mahama as he confirmed his readiness to contest the flagbearer position of the NDC Party.
Below is the press statement as read by Ambassador Ohene Agyekum.
STATEMENT ON PRESENTATION OF LETTER OF INTENT ON BEHALF OF FORMER PRESIDENT TO CONTEST NDC FLAGBEARERSHIP
A short while ago, we presented a letter to the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on behalf of Former President John Dramani Mahama in which he officially communicates his intention to contest the flagbearership of this great party.
We, who constitute this delegation today, are highly honoured to be part of this historic event.
Historic because we sincerely believe that it is one huge step in the journey of the NDC to come back to power to salvage the sinking ship of state.
I hasten to add that we are only a small representative group of the widespread support behind John Mahama’s comeback.
The groundswell of support enjoyed by JM both within and outside the NDC has been occasioned by his unmatched record of performance in government as compared to the abysmal performance of the Akufo-Addo government.
This is one government that clearly does not care about the unprecedented levels of hardship they have brought to Ghanaians. This is one government so full of arrogance, unbridled greed and shameful nepotism.
We have all come onboard this mission to work for the re-election of JM guided by lessons from our recent past. Going forward, we will constantly bear in mind those lessons not only during the campaign for flagbearer of our great NDC, but also in the 2020 election campaign and very hopefully in the government we shall form in January 2021, God willing.
Despite our deep respect for all the individuals within our party who have put themselves up for the same slot, we have shown up here in this number because we genuinely believe that President John Mahama represents our best hope of a quick return to power to continue the transformation agenda for a better Ghana as evidenced in the very good work JM did between 2013 and 2016 but which was unfortunately truncated through the obvious deception of the NPP.
Finally, let us reiterate our commitment to building a stronger party capable of providing effective leadership and direction in our bid to recapture power. This must be our priority. In this regard, we will always be guided by the larger interest of the party and its grass root following.
We thank you
