Ghana has a lot to be proud of – President Akufo-Addo says at 63rd Independence Anniversary

President Akufo-Addo says despite challenges Ghana has experienced since Independence, the country has a lot to be proud of.

Delivering the 63rd Independence Anniversary Speech at the Bara Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, the President said it is enough to say Ghana is blessed for not seeing any of the epidemics currently ravaging other countries.

He said the country should be proud of the liberal democracy it is pursuing saying, “we are making progress.”

President Akufo-Addo asked Ghanaians to completely stop shaking hands in the wake of the outbreak of coronavirus in other countries.

Describing the disease as a medical crises spreading fear and panic, the President said it calls for a revision of some cultural practices that require touching.

He said five thousand personal protective equipment have been procured and distributed.  He strongly advised against non-essential travels to high risk countries like China and Iran.
