Ghana marks 63rd Independence Day with National Durbar in Kumasi

The national celebration of Ghana’s 63rd Independence Day is taking place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region.

One hundred and fifty (150) Diplomats are expected to grace the anniversary celebration.  The theme for today’s event is; “Consolidating our Gains”.

Chairman, Anniversary Planning Committee, Laud Commey, told journalists in  Kumasi that adequate security measures are in place to ensure the safety of all visitors to Kumasi.

Today’s march past will be done by students, security services,   paramilitary organisations, voluntary organisations, and other organised bodies . Various artistic displays will climax the day.

The ceremony is under the Chairmanship of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu. President Akufo Addo will address the durbar with, the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Keith Christopher Rowley as the Special Guest of Honour.

Government officials, including Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, traditional and religious leaders, representatives of various political parties, civil society organisations and school children, are among those participating in the celebration.

Meanwhile, President Akuffo-Addo has directed that no political colours should be displayed during the Independence Celebration with the exception of national colours, Red Gold and Green.
