The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), has launched its Prosecution Policy document as a mechanism to enforce compliance with tax payment by eligible individuals and corporate entities in the country.
The Policy Document spells out the principles behind the policy initiative, the role of Investigators and Prosecutors as well as state institutions the Authority collaborates with to ensure successful implementation.
The Prosecuting Policy, which has been developed with funding  from the UK’s Department for International Development, DFID, seeks to empower the GRA to maximize tax revenue mobilization to propel national socio-economic development beyond external aid.

In a message, the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta, described the Prosecution policy as long overdue.

The Commissioner General of the GRA, Emmanuel Kofi Nti, noted that the Attorney General’s Department has granted the GRA a prosecutorial authority to investigate and prosecute offences relating to tax evasion and tax fraud as purely criminal matters to deter individuals and corporate organizations from non-compliance with the tax regimes.

The Kumasi Supervising High Court Judge, Justice Kossi Efo Kaglo, said though the Bench is ready to help with the implementation of the Prosecution Policy, it behoves the GRA to ensure that the initiative does not become a wealth creation avenue for its staff especially the Prosecutors.
