KNUST to be re-opened on Thursday 8th November

The Minister for Information, Mr. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST will be re-opened on Thursday the 8th of November after it was closed down indefinitely following demonstrations by some students.

At a Media Briefing in Accra, the Information Minister, Mr. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah also announced that no member of the old council will be part of the newly constituted council. He explained that government’s position on the matter is in the full interest of the institution.

Meanwhile the National leadership of the Teachers and Educational Workers Union, TEWU, is backing an indefinite sit down strike by the KNUST branch of the union over the breakdown of talks for the re-composition of a new Governing Council for the university.

According to the executives, TEWU, is not ready to replace its representative on the dissolved Council since the processes leading to the nomination of the representatives followed an existing mechanism.
