Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has expressed shock and sorrow over the demise of President George H.W Bush, the 41st president of the United States of America, who died Friday.

He said for former President Bush will be remembered for his humanity.

“He was a good and compassionate man, whose political experience, especially in foreign policy, served the whole world very well at the critical moment of the end of the Cold War,” a statement signed by former President Kufuor on Saturday said.

He said the world has lost an astute statesman and public servant.

“The elder President Bush served his country very well and was, indeed, a consummate public servant for his country; having served in the military, as a congressman, United States Ambassador to the United Nations, diplomat, Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, Vice President, and ultimately the 41st president of the United States.”

“My first encounter with President Bush Sr. was in 1971, when I, as a young politician and deputy foreign minister of my country, Ghana, and leading my country’s delegation to the UN General Assembly, was lobbied by him, then the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, for the successful General Assembly vote to admit China to the World body,” he reminisced.

“I mourn with the entire Bush family and the United States on the occasion of the loss of this great human being,” the statement added.

George Herbert Walker Bush was 94 and is survived by his five children and their spouses, 17 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two siblings.
