Parliament has denied media reports that the Speaker Professor Mike Oquaye is seeking to gag the media.

A statement issued by the Public Affairs Director, Kate Addo indicated that the Speaker could not use his office or as an individual prevent the media from carrying out their mandate.

The statement said the proceedings from the Chamber centered on the need for members of the corps to remain in the Chamber while proceedings are ongoing to ensure that they have a full account of the event as it unfolds.

The statement comes after the Speaker was reported to have threatened to withdraw media accreditation of journalists who cover news conferences when Parliament business is being held.
