President Akufo-Addo makes new appointments in Ghana Armed Forces

The President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah as the new Chief of Army Staff.

A press release issued and signed by Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, said the appointment, which takes effect Tuesday, February 18, 2020, follows the completion of the tour of duty and subsequent retirement from the Ghana Armed Forces of Major General William Ayamdo, the Chief of Army Staff.

“President Akufo-Addo has appointed Commodore Issah Adams Yakubu, effective February 19, 2020, as the new Chief of Staff at General Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces to succeed Major General Oppong-Peprah on the recommendation of the Armed Forces Council,” the statement on Wednesday, February 12, said.

It said the President has additionally appointed Brigadier General C.K. Awity as the new Commandant of MATS, on the recommendation of the Armed Forces Council, following the completion of the tour of duty and subsequent retirement from the Ghana Armed Forces of Major General Omane Agyekum.

Brigadier General C.K. Awity’s appointment takes effect Wednesday, February 19, 2020, and is also promoted to the rank of Major General on the same date.

“President Akufo-Addo has expressed his gratitude to Generals Ayamdo and Omane
Agyekum for their dedicated and meritorious services to the Ghana Armed Forces
and to the nation,” it added.
