Students and Lecturers at the University of Education, Winneba, UEW, run for their lives this morning, when the police invaded their campus, shooting and firing tear gas and water cannons injuring some students in the process.

A Senior Lecturer at the University, Dr. Vincent Adzahlie Mensah said many of the students took shelter at his apartment on campus after the police fired tear gas and other weapons at them.

The police reaction follows a demonstration against the abrupt dismissal and termination of appointments of some lecturers at the University.

A physically challenged student, Martin Tei, said he does not even know how he managed to run to safety adding that the lives of students are at risk.

Another student Louise Mensah, called on the government and other well-meaning Ghanaians to offer help to address the current challenges at the University.
