President Akufo-Addo has called for unity among Ghanaians to maintain democratic stability. He said lessons from the grand durbar in Kyebi on Thursday (August 23) should send a clear signal that Ghanaians are one people despite cultural differences.
President Akufo-Addo made the point when the Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu paid a courtesy call on him at the Jubilee House.
He appealed to the Asantehene to do all within his power to bring closure to the Dagbon crisis.
The Asantehene and his retinue of 20 paramount chiefs were at the Jubilee House to pay the President an official visit and congratulate him on his leadership.
President Akufo-Addo is the 5th president to receive the Asantehene. Otumfuor Osei Tutu commended the President for the implementation of his flagship programmes such as the free education, planting for food and jobs, and the one village one dam policy.
He asked the President’s appointees to work assiduously to ensure the successful implementation of these policies.
President Akufo-Addo was grateful to the Asantehene for the visit and particularly to Kyebi for the historic reunion of the Okyehene.
He said the visit should send a clear signal that Ghanaians are one people.
The Asantehene has been leading a group of eminent chiefs in an effort to resolve the Dagbon crisis. President Akufo-Addo said the incident which happened 15 years ago leaves a scar on the country’s traditional institutions.
He asked the Asantehene to speed up the process in resolving the conflict.
