UTAG demands resignation of UEW VC Afful Broni

Troubles on the campus of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) continue to take new twists and turns each day.
The current tension on campus have come about as a result of the dismissal of two senior lecturers of the University by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Afful Broni.
The students have not taken kindly to this and yesterday demonstrated on campus to reject the Vice Chancellor’s decision.  The students said they will not back down unless the proper thing is done.
Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education, Professor Kwesi Yankah, who was on campus to find solution to the impasse asked the students to exercise restraint.
After a meeting with management of the University, Professor Yankah told Journalist that a quick solution is needed to solve the latest problem.
Meanwhile the University Teachers Association of Ghana, UTAG says it will do whatever  it can to ensure justice in all that is going on at the University.
It has consequently issued a strong backing to one of the dismissed lecturers, Dr. Kaakyire

UTAG is therefore calling on Prof. Afful Broni to resign with immediate effect, while the dismissed lecturers are re-instated.
The Head of Public Relations at the Ministry of Education, Vincent Assifuah said it is not in government’s interest to take sides.
He said, after a meeting with students and management, it was agreed that peace, be maintained on the campus to facilitate smooth academic work.
Executive Director of the Institute of Education Studies, Peter Anti, supported calls for the reinstatement of the dismissed officers. He urged government to step up its efforts to resolve the impasse.
