VEEP Bawumia underscores use of technology to block loopholes in revenue collection

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has outdoored a mobile application dubbed “ECG Power” that will enable customers of ECG to buy prepaid credit or pay bills via mobile phones directly without having to visit sales points.
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia who officially launched the ECG Mobile Application said the move would not only help to eliminate the stress ECG customers go through in getting prepaid credit particularly at night but also block loopholes in the collection of revenue for the company.
He said the mobile application is also part of Government’s strategy to use innovative technology to drive the digitisation agenda.

The ECG Power App which was locally developed by ECG staff has been on test run for a year now. The app enables customers to purchase prepaid credit and also pay their bills without any stress.
Vice President Bawumia said government’s resolve to digitise Ghana’s economy is to do away with all inefficiencies and corruption in the system.
He said the energy sector plays a critical role in the economy and any mistake in the sector will have dire consequences on the economy.
Vice President Bawumia urged ECG to sensitize the public on the app in order to increase the current 2.8 million subscribers.
The Managing Director of ECG, Kwame Agyeman Budu in a remark said ECG has a two-year strategy to improve customer satisfaction, stressing that over the last five years, there has been a steady improvement in customer satisfaction.
He noted that ECG will continue to roll out initiatives that will transform it into an attractive and financially sound company.

Mr Agyeman Budu announced that ECG will soon launch a national campaign to stop power theft, adding that there is a reward for informants who report any power theft to the company.

Deputy Minister of Energy, William Owireku Aidoo said the app has come at a time when demand for quality service delivery is at its peak.

He called on the ECG to ensure that everyone can access the app.
Customers of ECG can download the ECG APP or dial *226# to access the app.
