Adinkra symbols and their meanings

GBCNEWS “WHO WE ARE”, series draws attention to Adinkra symbols and their meanings. Adinkra are visual symbols with historical and philosophical significance originally printed on cloth which royals wore to important ceremonies. The name “Adinkra” is traced to the word “Dinkra” of the Akan/Twi Language, of the Akan people of Ghana. “Dinkra” means; to be separated, taking leave or farewell.
