The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his delegation to the UN survived a near fatal accident over the weekend, after one of the engines of the presidential jet they were travelling on went off 30 minutes after takeoff. This is the third time the presidential jet has developed a fault in almost four years after similar incidents few years ago.

In March 2015, the Jet caught fire while attempting to take off from Kotoka International Airport. Before that, the Presidential jet on December 5, 2014, carrying former President John Mahama developed a technical fault which delayed his appearance at the 30th National Farmers Day celebrations in the Western Region.

With all these faults which could pose a threat to the life of the president and others who may at any time be traveling with him on the jet, many have expressed safety and security concerns especially when government has made it clear that buying a new presidential jet is not on the agenda now. Security Analyst Adam Bonah in an interview with GBC said: “When it comes to the safety of the first gentleman, it is something we can never compromise.”
