The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey has emphasized that social security remains one of the most effective tools in the world that ensures economic stability and social justice, thereby providing workers with a safety net in times of retirement, invalidity, or loss of a breadwinner. This year’s SMS launch which coincided with the 60th Anniversary of SSNIT was on the theme “A Legacy of Service.”
The launch began with a float through the principal streets of Koforidua with the staff holding placards with inscriptions “SSNIT At Your Bank,” “SSNIT Cares,” “SSNIT the only pension in Ghana that pays for life,” “Work hard, retire peacefully, SSNIT has got you covered,” and “Bring 13 point five percent of your income and get up to 60 percent,” among others.
The 2025 SSNIT Mobile Service SMS Week is a week dedicated to enhancing service accessibility and reinforcing the values that lie at the heart of the trust’s operations. Over the years, the SSNIT Mobile Service has helped thousands of workers perform various functions conveniently without necessarily having to visit any of their branches.
This initiative is just one of the many ways SSNIT continues to demonstrate its commitment to excellence in its service delivery. The launch is to celebrate how far SSNIT has come as a trust and reaffirmed their resolve to make SSNIT more responsive, transparent, and customer-focused in meeting the evolving needs of their contributors.
Speaking at the launch, the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, noted that SSNIT has impacted the economy of Ghana in so many ways, and it continues to embark on initiatives and activities that bring transformation in the pensions and other socio-economic spaces of Ghana. She hinted that SSNIT Mobile Service Week is a significant step in deepening social security coverage.
The Director General of SSNIT, Kwesi Afreh Biney noted that every month, SSNIT pays pensions to over 256 thousand retired men and women nationwide, adding that as of October 2025, a total of five point one-nine billion Ghanaian cedis has been paid in pensions and related benefits.
These payments, he said, reflect the lives they touch, the dignity they uphold, and the trust they continue to build. Mr. Afreh Biney said the payments serve as the living proof of their legacy, which is a legacy of service, reliability, and trust.
The Omanhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Kwaku Boateng, noted that the launch of the SMS Week is a testament to SSNIT’s adaptability and responsiveness to the evolving needs of their customers.
He encouraged Ghanaians, especially those in the informal sector to enroll in SSNIT to insure their life during their retirement age. The 2025 SSNIT Mobile Service Week commenced on Monday, October 20, 2025, and ends on Friday, October 24, 2025.
