Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has retained his position as Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), securing a decisive victory in the party’s 2026 Regional Executive Elections.
Abronye polled 201 votes to defeat four other contenders in the chairmanship race, giving him another mandate to lead the party’s regional structures and spearhead its reorganisation and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2028 general elections.
His closest challenger, Yaw Afful, obtained 44 votes, while Joseph Mensah polled 31 votes. Kwabena Oppong secured three votes, with Afari Gyan (Not the former Chairman of the Electoral Commission) recording no vote.
The election also produced a new crop of regional executives who will work alongside Abronye to strengthen the party’s organisational structures and prepare it for the next electoral contest.
Kate Amponsah Agyare emerged as the First Vice Chairperson, securing 252 votes against Peter Boampong Asomah, who obtained 29 votes.
The Second Vice Chairmanship went to Kwaku Antwi Agyei, who polled 123 votes. He was followed by Issa Issaka with 89 votes and Kwadwo Agyekum with 68 votes.
For the position of Regional Secretary, Kofi Ofosu Boateng emerged victorious with 187 votes, defeating Asare Baffour Ebenezer, who secured 93 votes.
Randy Ashraf Issahaku was elected Deputy Regional Secretary after polling 145 votes, narrowly beating Stephen Opuni, who obtained 135 votes. One ballot was rejected in the contest.
In the race for Women’s Organiser, Samira Sulley emerged winner with 142 votes, edging Doris Asomah, who polled 139 votes.
The Youth Organiser position went to Dauda Ibrahim Bamba, who secured 102 votes. He was followed by Shadrach Abrefah Mensah with 92 votes, Joeffrey Kwarteng Brobbey with 58 votes and Alhaji Baba Suwari with 29 votes.
Faisal Osman Mohammed emerged as the new Nasara Organiser, polling 177 votes against Wahab Bashiru’s 101 votes. Two ballots were rejected in the contest.
The Treasurer position was won by Veronica Tuffour, who polled 131 votes, ahead of Henry Osei with 124 votes and Kassim Siaka with 25 votes.
For the strategically important position of Organiser, Abdul Razak Oppong secured a convincing victory with 229 votes, defeating Darlington Bill Boampong, who obtained 52 votes.
The Communications Officer position went to Fahd Osman, who polled 170 votes against Abubakari Yakubu’s 111 votes.
Speaking to the media after his re-election, Abronye pledged to use his renewed mandate to lead the NPP in a determined effort to reclaim parliamentary seats lost by the party in the Bono Region.
He said he would draw on the experience and grassroots strategy he employed in 2016, when he served as Youth Organiser of the NPP in the then Brong Ahafo Region.
Abronye also sent a strong warning to the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), declaring that the NPP was preparing for a political comeback.
“What I did in 2016, I will do it again. The NDC should watch out for me. We will capture the Bono Region for the NPP as we did in 2016.”
The re-elected chairman, however, struck a conciliatory tone after the contest, promising to bring his former competitors and all the newly elected executives on board.
He said the party could only achieve its 2028 objective through unity, discipline and a collective commitment to rebuilding the party from the grassroots.
Abronye therefore called on all NPP members in the Bono Region to put their differences behind them and work together to wrestle political power from the NDC.
The newly elected regional executives are now expected to join forces with the chairman to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures, improve mobilisation and reconnect with voters across the region.
With the 2028 general elections already looming on the political horizon, Abronye’s re-election has placed the NPP’s Bono Regional leadership at the forefront of what promises to be a fierce battle for political dominance.
