A UK-based entrepreneur, Carl Garrod, has underscored the vast opportunities available for stronger trade and investment ties between Ghana, Egypt and the United Kingdom.

Speaking to GBC News at the third edition of the Egypt-Ghana Business Bridge Forum in Accra, Mr. Garrod, who runs a company called African Growth, said his mission is to connect UK and European businesses with opportunities across Africa.

“African Growth works to link businesses across nations and sometimes even collaborates with African governments on trade, investment and helping them expand into the wider world,” Mr. Garrod explained.

He described the forum as “educational,” noting that he had not been fully aware of the historical and diplomatic ties between Ghana and Egypt.

“I learned today about some of the historical connections, including the fact that President Kwame Nkrumah’s wife was Egyptian. It shows the vibrancy and openness of Ghanaian business in building partnerships across the continent and beyond,” he said.

On UK-Ghana relations, Mr. Garrod highlighted the strong potential for deeper cooperation, citing the Ghanaian diaspora in Britain as a key bridge.

“There are lots of opportunities for Ghanaian businesses to forge closer ties with the UK. British companies must do more to strengthen those connections because the opportunities for equal and mutually beneficial relationships are immense,” he stressed.

Mr. Garrod pledged to continue championing initiatives that connect Ghanaian enterprises with partners in the UK and Europe while promoting Africa as a vibrant hub for international trade and investment.

The Egypt-Ghana Business Bridge Forum, now in its third year, brought together government officials, diplomats and private sector leaders to explore avenues for boosting trade and investment between the two countries.
