Akufo-Addo congratulates President-elect of Liberia Joseph Boakai

The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has congratulated the President-elect of Liberia, Joseph Boakai, for emerging victorious in the peaceful election in the country.

Mr. Boakai faced a tough contest from the incumbent President, H.E. George Weah, in the Liberian election. The election entered the second round, which saw the flagbearer of the Unity Party, Joseph Boakai, emerge as the winner. President Weah conceded defeat moments after the results of the election were declared and congratulated Joseph Boakai.

In a congratulatory message, President Akufo-Addo congratulated the next president of Liberia and praised the country for embarking on the peaceful exercise of choosing their next leader.

He also commended the outgoing president, H.E. George Weah, for conceding defeat and supervising a peaceful democratic process in the country. He added that the demonstration of statesmanship and peaceful democratic processes in Liberia is one that the rest of African countries need to emulate.

“I commend strongly President George Weah for his gracious and statesmanlike concession of defeat, thereby laying to rest any lingering suspicion and anxiety about the fate of Liberia in the aftermath of the elections. I wish him well in his future  endeavors,” he said.

President Akufo-Addo further expressed hopes for the continuity of the deepened and strengthened friendship and cooperation between Ghana and Liberia in the phases of democracy, stability, development, and prosperity.

“It is my hope that President-elect Boakai would continue on the path of his  predecessors, and deepen further the friendship that exists between Liberia and Ghana, which has been based on a shared agenda of democracy, stability, security, development, and prosperity,” he added.
