Asamama and Asonafo communities in the Atewa West District in the Eastern Region have cautioned ATK Mining Group to work within the lay down procedure outlined by EPA in their operations to prevent pollution of the environment.
The mining group has acquired an eleven year prospective mining certificate from Minerals Commission and Environmental Protection Agency EPA to operate large scale mining in the two communities.
Speaking at an engagement forum organized by EPA, some community members shared their grievances about ATK Mining Group’s previous small scale mining at Asamama and Asonafo Communities.
The Regional Director of EPA, Felix Addo-Okyireh in an interview with GBCNews said his outfit has organized a lot of public hearings in most mining communities in the region but Asamama forum has been exceptional, adding that members of the community were disciplined and they articulated their grievances devoid of insolence and contempt.
The General Manager of ATK Mining Group, Michael Kwesi Dwumfuor in an interview said his outfit will commercialize a large scale alluvial gold mining in Asamama and Asonafo Communities and has completed their basic base line studies and all their parameters are in place to operate professionally.
