Convener of #Fixthecountry Movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has refused to plead to charges of treason felony before the Accra High Court.

On the orders of the court, the prosecution amended the previous charge sheet, which was defective, but the accused declined to plead to the two counts of treason felony.

He claimed that he was exercising his rights under Section 238 of the Criminal Offences Code not to respond to the charges.

The trial judge Justice Mary Yanzu, after making references to statutes, entered a plea of not guilty for Mr. Barker-Vormawor on both counts.

His lawyer, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, has also filed a motion praying the court to order the release of the accused person’s passport to him. The Ashaiman District Court last August committed Mr Barker-Vormawor to stand trial at the High Court for treason felony.

Mr Barker-Vormawor is accused of allegedly making posts on his social media accounts which endeavoured to usurp the executive powers of the state by advocating an overthrow of the Constitution.

The court has adjourned to June 7 to empanel a jury to hear his case and also consider his application for the release of his passport.
