A section of the Dansoman Market was gutted by fire in the early hours of Wednesday, with the blaze reportedly starting around 12:04 a.m.

Firefighters were seen battling intense flames that had engulfed several wooden structures. Preliminary accounts suggest the fire may have been triggered by a gas cylinder explosion, while other reports point to a possible electrical fault from one of the kiosks.

The incident occurred about 50 metres from the Dansoman Fire Station, which is situated within the market enclave. Some residents criticised the fire service, alleging that the first responding tender had no water—an issue they believe contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.

Additional fire tenders from neighbouring stations were deployed to bring the situation under control. Meanwhile, affected shop owners rushed to salvage what they could from their stores.

The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Rev. Kwaku Addo, visited the scene to obtain first-hand information and commiserate with traders who lost their goods.

Dansoman Market, the largest trading hub serving the Ablekuma West constituency, was first upgraded about three decades ago. It hosts several shops and facilities, including a newly opened DVLA office. Many structures within the inner perimeter remain wooden, making them highly vulnerable to such incidents.
