Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, has declared Monday, November 13, to Friday, November 17, as Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Week for this Legal Year Term.

The ADR week is to afford its Directorate of the Judicial Service the opportunity to engage the public and inform the citizenry of the presence of ADR within the court system.

This year’s theme is “Building the Pillars of Justice through Alternative Dispute Resolution.

The Director of ADR, Alex Nartey, said the week-long celebration will also afford court users whose cases are pending before the courts the benefit of using ADR.

One hundred and thirty-five courts, consisting of thirty-five Circuit Courts and one hundred district courts, shall devote the week to the settlement of court cases with ADR across the country.

ADR has been adopted by the Judicial Service of Ghana as part of its adjudication process, dubbed “Court-Connected ADR”.

The programme will also ensure that access to justice in the country is made easier, cheaper, non-adversarial, expeditious, and flexible for all, particularly the poor and vulnerable.

Mr. Nartey encouraged the bar, disputants, the media, and the public to participate and cooperate with the Judicial Service to make ADR Week a success.
