A strategic framework dubbed “LEADing Justice Initiative” has been launched to enhance justice delivery in Ghana. The framework which seeks to leverage digitalization to expedite the efficiency of court processes in the country will also equip stakeholders in the judiciary with the requisite resources to build the trust of the public in the court system.
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia who launched the initiative in Accra said the duty of the Judiciary is to bring justice close to people by employing innovative ways to make the system effective. He therefore commended the Chief Justice for her visionary leadership skills and vision for effective justice delivery in Ghana.
The ‘LEADing Justice Initiative’ which stands for Law, Ethics, Access, Due Diligence and Digitalisation will be the blueprint to pave the way for the Judiciary and the Judicial Service towards meeting the justice demands of the 21st century and beyond.
Vice President Bawumia noted that digitalisation is the way to go, especially in the fight against corruption stressing that this initiative will herald a new dawn in the history of the Judiciary to propel efficiency in the justice delivery system. While applauding the Chief Justice for the initiative,Dr Bawumia pledged government’s support to make it a success.
The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfrey Yeboah Dame in a remark said an efficient justice delivery system guarantees respect for human rights and assures prosperity for its citizens. He was optimistic that this initiative will reduce delays in the conclusion of cases among others.
The National President of the Ghana Bar Association, Yaw Acheampong Boafo pledged the Association’s commitment to ensure the success of the initiative. She appealed to the government to allow the Judicial service to retain 100 percent of their Internally Generated Funds to enable the service to be well resourced for its mandate.
Chairman of the Council of State who is also the Omanhene of the Juaben Traditional Area, Nana Otuo Sirebuour who chaired the function entreated the Judicial Service to publicise the document to make it more visible to the public.
