Fire has gutted the family house of the late Member of Parliament for Tamale Central and former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.
The incident comes as a fresh tragedy for the family and constituents, a day before the commemoration of the tragedy that led to the former MP’s death. Dr. Murtala Mohammed was among eight people who perished in the Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region on August 6, 2025, while on national assignment to Obuasi.
The fire incident occurred on Tuesday, August 5, 2026, just a day before the one year anniversary of the helicopter crash.
The Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service, ADO 1 Hudu Baba, confirmed the incident to GBC News.
According to him, firefighters responded promptly to a distress call and managed to bring the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to adjoining properties.
Investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of the fire outbreak. No injuries nor casualties have been reported.
