Ga Mantse champions revival of Ga Language in schools

His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, Ga Mantse, has emphasized the urgent need to revive the Ga language and culture through the educational system, describing it as essential to preserving the identity of future generations.

Speaking at the 85th anniversary celebration of Odorgonno Senior High School on July 5, 2025, the Ga King addressed a gathering of students, teachers, alumni, and community members, underscoring the role of education in sustaining cultural heritage.

“It has become our responsibility to bring back Ga culture and language into our classrooms.”

The King also announced plans to collaborate with the Minister of Education to incorporate the Ga language into the Ghana Education Service (GES) curriculum.

“We want to partner with the Ministry of Education to integrate the Ga language in our GES curriculum”, he affirmed, calling for a collective effort to ensure that students learn about their roots.

He expressed a commitment to refurbishing the Odorgonno Senior High School in collaboration with its alumni. “The future of our children is important to my chiefs and I. Our Chairman has said a lot and we will rebuild Odorgonno Senior High School” he added.

“Together with the Alumni of Odorgonno, we will refurbish the Tackie Tawiah Hostel in the School,” he declared. 

King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II highlighted profoundly in his speech, the value of culture. “Our culture is who we are; it is the base of ethnicity; it is our heritage brought to the fore, making demand of us not to lose it.”

He called on all Ghanaians to embrace their cultural identity and take responsibility for passing it on to future generations.
