The President of the Ghana Institute of Architects, Foster Osae-Akonnor has bemoaned uncontrolled erection of structures and constructions across the country.
Speaking at a town hall meeting organized by the Institute in collaboration with the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council in Koforidua, Mr. Osae Akonnor said most developers do not respect building regulations and other statutory documents.
He said the purpose of the meeting was to dialogue on issues affecting the built environment in the Eastern Region, including land ownership, technical expertise, planning and development control.
Mr. Osae-Akonnor outlined roles architects play in the physical development of the country.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong applauded the Institute for organizing the meeting which afforded stakeholders the platform to share and discuss issues affecting the built environment.
He hoped the meeting would address and prevent most of the displaced physical developments in the Region and the nation as a whole.
Mr. Acheampong stated that, with the geographical location of the Eastern Region, most urban assemblies are rapidly growing with all kinds of structures which, when well planned, would make the region a sight to behold.
He said the expertise of Architects are essential to every community, hence the importance of the theme for the occasion, “Architects and the Community”.
The occasion which was also used to mark the sixtieth anniversary celebration of the Institute, brought together Municipal and District Chief Executives, chiefs, opinion leaders, the media and the public.
