Ghana to host Climate Change Week in March, 2019

Ghana will in March next year host Africa Climate Week, to create a platform for countries on the continent to listen to how countries are implementing their Nationally Determined Contributions, (NDCs’).

The Director, Sustainable Development Mechanisms of the UN Climate Change secretariat, James Grabet, announced this at the on going climate change conference in Katowice, Poland.

He said similar events will be held in a Latin American and Asia- Pacific regions in the course of next year.

This he noted will bring the post Paris Agreement closer to the national level for it’s successful implementation.

The Deputy minister of Environment, Science Technology and Innovation, Mrs. Patricia Appiagyei said Ghana is ready to host the event as it has already set up a planning committee.

The committee comprises of the environment, transport, energy, forestry,and tourism sectors.

She noted that through the event countries will be exposed to more climate related issues and discuss how they are implementing their NDC’S.

She said the country will through the event promote it’s rich tourist attractions.
