The Exclusive Economic Zone, EEZ of the sea is an area where about 90 percent of all fishes are caught worldwide.
This same area has about 80 percent of the world’s hydrocarbons needed to generate power.
It is within this zone, which is 200 nautical miles off the coast of Ghana where all the oil rigs are sited and where most fishermen also make their livelihood.
The EEZ has for decades seen increased illegal activities like piracy, armed robbery, bunkering and illegal, uncontrolled and unregulated fishing.
To address these issues, the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College has organised the 14th EEZ and operations course for stakeholders.
